Fossil Coral Pendant Necklace, in 925S silver. The Fossil Coral Pendant Necklace is designed by Dewi Dian and Dode Handcrafted Jewellery. The silver necklace is a rolo chain measuring 50cm in total. 6cm is an adjustable o-ring segment for adjustable length down the décolletage. Our natural gemstones are hand polished with no chemical polisher. It is 100% from manual polishing to get the perfect colour and shine that is a known characteristic of Dode Handcrafted Jewellery.
About Fossil Coral
Our handcrafted silver pendant is made of Fossilised Coral. Coral is a well-known gemstone prized throughout history. Corals are marine invertebrates that live in colonies that secrete calcium carbonate that form coral reefs. Corals form in branch-like structures that resemble trees. The pink and red colors in coral are attributed to carotene. Coral is harvested from the coastal waters surrounding Australia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Taiwan. Coral is also harvested in the Mediterranean and Red Seas.
The oldest known corals date back to 500 million years ago. The fossilization process preserves the ancient corals and they are very attractive. Creating patterns and pictures, which is why they are often used in jewellery.

In Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism coral is one of the nine sacred gems or Navaratna. There are also mentions of Coral along with pearls in the Al Quran. In Ancient times, the Greeks believed that coral can be used to ward off evil. Whilst the Romans believed that coral could protect children from harm and sickness. In Buddhism it is thought to bring prosperity and wellness. It is one of the Navajo eighteen sacred objects. There are many significant meanings attributed to coral, which is why it has been used as a feature in precious jewellery.
